This event is designed for players who just finished their junior year (2021 grads) or are just beginning their junior year (2022 grads). The event is geared towards those players who are focused on becoming college softball student-athletes. The camp is open to all 2021 and 2022 high school graduates and is restricted in enrollment. Each event is limited to 64 total players. Players who graduate high school in 2023 are eligible to register but must understand the prospect event is designed for the older players. The player-to-coach ratio will not exceed 8:1. The camp complies with all current NCAA softball & recruiting rules. REGISTRATION IS LIMITED TO 64 PLAYERS PER EVENT & CLOSES ONCE EVENT IS SOLD OUT INDIVIDUAL METRICS INSTRUCTION & EVALUATION Players will be broken up into their teams for the day. Junior Day Softball cannot guarantee players attending together will be on the same team. Team rosters are determined in order of registration. Each player will receive verbal instruction and feedback from coaches on site. Coaches will evaluate each player based on their experiences at their level of college softball and give feedback and tips when appropriate. Because we want full interaction between coaches and players we do not provide written evaluations on camp day. Metrics will be collected for the coaches on site at the event. We highly encourage players to ask questions of the staff and obtain any and all information they would like to know during the event. Information will be sent in advance to participants on how to approach the day and get the most out of it. Each Junior Day Softball Prospect Camp & Showcase can differ slightly when it comes to the feedback given but generally speaking will feature measurements and instruction on the latest metrics in softball such as exit bat velocity, throwing velocity, running times and others. The college coaches on site will not only provide these metrics but will also instruct the campers on how to improve them. Players will also be instructed in improving the skills such as transfer, footwork, glove work and field positioning. Through dialogue with the coaches players will be provided with information that they can use to compare and contrast where they stand with current college softball players. SEMINAR ON COLLEGE DEVELOPMENT & RECRUITING The seminar will be held during camp and is for all members of the family. The seminar will last approximately a 45-60 minutes. This will cover topics like: The difference between NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA, NCAA Recruiting Rules, How to Promote Yourself, What Coaches Look For, The Best Way to Make a Video, What to Expect Playing College Athletics and How to Talk to College Coaches. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and will come out of the this segment having a much better idea of what college athletics is all about. Parents and players are encouraged to ask questions of the coaches during the discussion. Information will be sent to registrants prior to the event providing discussion points. This information is to prepare you for the discussion and prepare questions in advance. Junior Day Softball Prospect Camp & Showcase is available after the event to answer remaining questions you may have. We are not a recruiting service, but we are happy to clarify rules and point you in the right direction to get your questions answered. Please use the ‘contact us’ link for those inquiries. TEAM SHOWCASE The event features skills instruction and measurements as well as scripted game play. All players will be assigned a camp number and team. Coaches have corresponding player information to those numbers. Players may be measured in home to first times, overhand velocity, throwing accuracy and bat exit speed. Players registered will have the opportunity to showcase their skills during live on field situations involving live pitching, hitting, baserunning and fielding. Players will receive time at their ‘primary’ positions. Positions indicated during registration will be used in determining this. Instruction at camp will focus on obtaining metrics and coaches giving feedback as to the benchmarks they look for in athletes. Drills will be run for players to work on throwing, fielding, hitting and running aspects of their game. ALL PLAYERS ATTENDING EVENT WILL RECEIVE: Face to face time, opportunities to ask questions about their skills and will get to know the college coaches in attendance. Instruction from coaches attending the event. Metrics measured for each player. Opportunity to showcase their skills for coaches. This showcase occurs during instruction/as well as during game situations. One-on-one and small group instruction. A seminar about the NCAA recruiting process, rules, and regulations (parents are encouraged to either stay or come back for this segment). IS IT AN INSTRUCTIONAL CAMP OR A SHOWCASE? It’s both! Players want to showcase their skills to college coaches but they should also want to learn from the coaches. Coaches want to evaluate players and their skills so they can teach them appropriately, just like they do with their own players. Coaches also want to see how players react to new instruction, new techniques and how they socialize with peers and other coaches. All events involving college coaches must involve instruction to be NCAA compliant. WHAT ABOUT NEW SOFTBALL RECRUITING LEGISLATION? The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) and the NCAA passed new recruiting legislation for softball in April of 2018. College Coaches are not allowed to engage in ‘specific recruiting conversations’ with athletes prior to September 1 of their Junior Year in High School. Camps, like the Junior Day Softball Prospect Camp & Showcase, are a critical piece in the recruiting process. Athletes and Coaches can work together during this instructional event. This helps players and coaches get to know one another, begin to build the recruiting relationship, while saving conversations on scholarships and roster spots for a later time. WHAT IF I STILL HAVE QUESTIONS? If you still have questions about the event, please use the ‘Contact Us’ link on this page. Be sure to indicate the city and state you are interested in obtaining information for.
